For those of you who fell in love with J. K. Rowling's books about a magical boy, you will understand the title of this book review. This 2005 novel by Nick Hornby has me savoring every last page and wanting more, more, more of the story even though I am getting closer, closer, closer to the end. The story is of four would-be suiciders who accidently meet at a popular spot to off yourself one New Year's Eve. Oddly enough hilarity, tears, self realization and angst ensue. JJ, Martin, Maureen and Jess find that their differences mean nothing when you have suicide in common. Each chapter is told from a different character's point of view giving you insight into the worlds that brought them each to the rooftop. And through this technique you see what their real wants and motives are.
Hornby's combination of dry wit and compassion make for beautiful story telling as proven in About a Boy and High Fidelity. Buy it. And savor every bite.
